Halley's Bible Handbook was born out of Henry H. Halley's conviction that everyone ought to read the Bible daily. From its first edition, a small give-away booklet of sixteen pages, it has grown into an eight hundred and sixty page "almanac" of biblical information, used regularly by hundreds of thousands of laymen, teachers and ministers.  Halley's Bible Handbook contains more biblical information than any other book its size.  It has been a continuous bestseller through the years and has sold more than five million copies in many languages.  Dr. Halley, author, minister and Bible lecturer, was born in the Blue Grass section of Kentucky.  He was ordained to the ministry in 1898.  Then followed ten years of pastoral service in Michigan, during which he developed a fondness for memorizing favorite passages of the Bible.  This habit grew until he could recite from memory entire books of the Bible, in abridged connected form and in their own words.  For many years his life work was the giving of these Bible recitals, each one preceded by an introductory statement about the historical setting of the book.  These Bible recitals were the crystalized result of many long years of the most painstaking study of the Bible.  This unusual ministry found him filling engagements in thirty-five states from coast to coast until his death.

Halley's Bible Handbook, the classic layperson's companion text, includes a concise Bible commentary, important discoveries in archaeology, related historical data, church history, maps, and more.
